Will Probiotics Bring my Crohn’s Disease in to Remission?

While probiotics can be very useful as part of an overall strategy to bring Crohn’s Disease in to remission, relying on them solely to get back to health is not a good idea.

Crohn's Disease ProbioticsProbiotics will help your digestive system to function better by getting you digestive flora in balance, if they are out of balance before you take the probiotic you could notice quite a shift over time. Especially if you have been on steroids for a long term or been through a course of antibiotics, as these both upset and kill the digestive flora.

I had been on both steroids long term and been on several courses of antibiotics, my digestive bacteria had been through the ringer. When I found some good probiotics that were especially for Crohn’s Disease, that had several beneficial strains of bacteria in them, I noticed a big difference in my digestion and elimination.

How Can I Make Following My Crohn’s Disease Diet Easier Over The Holidays?

When the holiday season rolls round, whether it is Thanksgiving that has just been, or Christmas that is just around the corner, following a Crohn’s Disease diet at this time can be more difficult than other times throughout the year.

crohn's disease over eatingWith such an abundance of food it can be very easy to over eat, and also eat foods you know can upset your Crohn’s Disease. To help make things easier for yourself over this time having some recipes that you really enjoy, and save for special occasions such as Christmas or other holidays can be of great benefit. For the diet you are following if you don’t already, find a couple of recipes that you can try that are especially for holiday time or other special occasions.

For example say it is your birthday and you want to make a birthday cake. Instead of using normal wheat flour there are other alternatives you can use if you need your cake to be gluten free. You can use an egg replacer if you need to leave out eggs, you can use vegetable oil instead of butter in the recipe.

Does Climate Affect Crohn’s Disease?

While there is no real ‘evidence’ of this that I am aware of, I have often found myself feeling better in the past (when my health was not good) being in a certain climate. For me that was a warmer climate. When it is either summer here in New Zealand or I travel to a place that is warmer I found that I felt much better.

Crohn's Disease ClimateI don’t know for sure that climate has anything to do with how you feel when you have Crohn’s Disease, but for me it seemed to make a difference. I would love to hear from you, or leave a comment below if you have had an experience feeling better or worse with the climate where you live.

One thing I do find is that I eat less in a hotter climate, or have foods that are quite light and easy to digest. This may have had something to do with why I felt better in a hotter climate, eating less meant less work for my digestive system so it would work better.

Hate Taking Capsules For Crohn’s Disease? Make It Easier

I had to get used to taking tablets and capsules for Crohn’s Disease at a very early age, luckily it has never really has been an issue for me. There are some people that find taking tablets or capsules quite difficult. There are things that you can do to make taking capsules and tablets much easier.

With many tablets or capsules, you can take them out of the capsule and sprinkle the contents over food and take them that way. There are tablets that need to taken still in the capsule. If you are not sure about this, check with the people where the capsules came from to see if it matters. Check with your doctor, natural therapist or other health care provider for Crohn’s Disease.

For example enteric coated probiotics are something that you need to take the capsule for. The special coating on the capsule makes sure the bacteria get to the right part of your digestive system. Without the capsule the bacteria may die in your stomach from the acid due to digestion. Without the capsule you may be wasting your money.

How do I Cope When I Have Crohn’s Disease?

This is something I struggled with for many years after I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. I was often in and out of depression and I found it very hard to cope through those times. Being young didn’t help as it made it that much harder, when you are still finding out who you are as a person major events in life can really mess with you.

Coping with Crohn's DiseaseI have since learned to cope with Crohn’s Disease and life much better thanks to some little tricks I learned along the way. One of the biggest realisations I had was that you can change your state of being or your emotions at will. I always used to think that I was stuck with whatever feeling I was feeling, for example if you felt sad and angry I thought that was what you just had to put up.

This is far from the case, you have the power to change your emotions and how you feel, this can be done quite quickly. You will get better at it over time till you will be able to change how you feel virtually instantly. No longer do you need to be a slave to your emotions or how you feel at any point.
